Christian Priest and Social Worker, Father L.M. Sukol passes away

Christian Priest and Social Worker, Father L.M. SukolFather L.M. Sukol, Priest and Social activities who has been working in Kerala especially in Kannur and Kasargod Districts for the past 67 years, passed away on Monday at a private hospital in Kozhikode where he was admitted due to breathing problems. He was 99. The funeral function will be held Wednesday evening at Mariyapuram Nithya Sahaya Matha Devalayam premises near Pariyaram in the district.
Father Sukol alias Valiachan was born in Italy on February 08, 1916 to Juseppa-Barbara, a farmers' family under the Thaithro provincial, came to India in 1948. He joined Christian missionary in March 09, 1940. He got Indian citizenship in 1980. He was resided in Mariyapuram Nithya Sahaya Sabha near Pariyaram in Kannur district for the last 39 years. He has always worked for the downtrodden to provide houses for the poor.
He has built around several thousands of houses for the poor. The father started his welfare schemes in Wayanad and extended to Madayi, Pazyaangadi, Kuttur, Mathamangalam, Kotta, Pilathara, Pariyaram, Pattuvam, Arippambra, Karakundu, Mariyapuram, Kannadiparambu, etc. in Kerala, India. He has assisted in the partial completion of houses for over 10,000 beneficiaries and has built houses without considering the religion.
He also gave financial assistance to buy study materials to the students, to purchase sewing machines to the women especially in backward class and hapless families and for the up gradation of schools in North Malabar.
