WCC reflects Pope Francis’s message on the World Day of PeaceThe General Secretary of World Council of Churches (WCC), Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit reflected on the message from Pope Francis on the World Day of Peace, participating in an inter-religious service held at the St Nicolas de Flue Church in Geneva, along with other religious leaders representing Jewish, Muslim and Buddhist communities in Switzerland.
The service held on January 20, was organized by the Permanent Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lausanne, Geneva and Fribourg. The World Day of Peace is commemorated on 1 January initiated by the Roman Catholic Church. The service was opened by Archbishop Silvano M. Tomasi, Apostolic Nuncio, the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the UN and Other International Organizations in Geneva.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr.Tveit said, “With his message for the World Day of Peace, His Holiness Pope Francis calls all of us to join hands as sisters and brothers of one human family” and “work together for peace and justice in this world that we share.”
At the service, Tveit expressed appreciation for peace initiatives taken by Pope Francis in Syria and the Middle East. He said, “I cannot speak about peace and justice in abstract terms” but emphasized the need to “respond every day in practical and concrete actions to the calls that reach us from churches and others in the crises and conflict-stricken areas of this world.”
Among other religious leaders who shared their reflections on Pope Francis’s message were Dr Tawalama Dammika, representative of Buddhist community in Geneva, Dr Izhak Dayan, Great Rabbi of Geneva, Imam Fabrice Tonnerieux from the Cultural Islamic Foundation of Geneva, Metropolitan Jeremy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Switzerland and Charlotte Kuffer, President of the Protestant Church of Geneva.

Dr.Duraisamy Geoffery Samuel Dhinakaran, was an Indian Evangelical Preacher and founder of the Jesus Calls Ministry, born on July 1, 1935 at Surandai in Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu, India. India Celebrates World Sunday School Day

The "World Sunday School" was founded with a great challenge to save and shape the children community after seeing thousands and thousands of street children who neither go to school nor to Church by Serampore trio (William Carey, Joshua Marshman, and William Ward) in India at 1803. Every year first Sunday of November, the "World Sunday School Day", was observed by the Churches. Charles Mead

Rev.Charles Mead was the Father of the South Travancore Mission, born on 1st October 1792 at Bristol, Gloucester, England. He was brought up by his uncle Rev.John Hunt at Wakefield, Yorkshire, attended Gosport Missionary School and ordained at Chichester on 6th March 1816. According to the London Mission Society’s report, Rev.Charles Mead was nominated for Travancore as Rev.Ringeltaube’s successor. He married Rev.Hunt’s daughter. He left from England on 20th April, 1816 for Travancore and arrived at Madras on 28th August 1816 along with Rev.Richard Knill, who known as the pastor of the church at St Petersburg. He was received by Rev.Loveless, who was the first England missionary of Madras.
