Jnana Deepa Vidhyapeeth honors Jesuit Father and EducationalistJnana Deepa Vidhyapeeth (JDV), Pune and National Association of Professional Social Workers in India (NAPSWI) honored a Jesuit priest and a University professor with lifetime achievement awards for their academic contributions to society for their valuable academic contributions to the society. The award was conferred by former President of India Pratibha Devisingh Patil, March 21, during the 3rd International Conference on Social Work and Spirituality held at Jnana Deepa Vidhyapeeth (JDV), Pune.

Jnanadeepa Vidyapeeth based at Pune in Maharashtra, chose Professor Gracious Thomas, Coordinator, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) Chair at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi for award. The other to receive the award was Jesuit Father Job Kozhathadam, who was the JDV President until recently. The awards instituted in collaboration with the National Association of Professional Social Workers in India. The awards were handed over by former President of India, Pratibha Patil at the opening of the third international conference on social and spirituality held at JDV March 21-23.

Professor Gracious Thomas

Gracious Thomas is Professor and Director in Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. He is the Coordinator of CBCI Chair at IGNOU established by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India. He was appointed as “Consulter” to Pontifical Council for Health Pastoral Care, by Pope John Paul II. He was also Adviser to the Indian Parliamentary Forum on HIV/AIDS for several years. He has 115 books to his credit, of which 30 are authored by him and the rest edited by him. The CBCI Office for Health has published three of his books.

Father Job Kozhathadam

Father Job Kozhathadam is known as pioneer of Science-Religion dialogue in India. After obtaining Ph.D in History and Philosophy of Science from University of Maryland, U.S.A in 1986, Fr.Job was teaching at JDV, Pune and held various positions including Dean of Faculty of Philosophy and President of JDV. He was the Founder Director of Association of Science, Society and Religion (ASSR) and Indian Institute of Science and Religion (IISR). He is General Editor of Omega, the first Indian Journal of Science and Religion. He has also written several books and research papers. His book “The Discovery of Kepler’s Laws: The Interaction of Science, Philosophy and Religion” was named “Outstanding Academic Book of the Year 1994” by Choice Magazine.
