EFI honours Chief Minister of Mizoram Lal Thanhawla for mission worksThe Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) has conferred a Lifetime Achievement Award on Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla in recognition of his dedication to the service of Christian mission works on November 07, 2014. The Chief Minister graced the function of Church leaders of North East India ‘North East India Congress on Church in Mission’ (NEICOCIM) at the Council of Baptist Churches in North East India (CBCNEI) Office at Guwahati. At the conclave, he was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Earlier in 2009, he was awarded Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award.

Speech of Lal Thanhawla

While expressing his gratitude to EFI for bestowing award, the CM - Lal Thanhawla expressed his happiness over the acknowledgement given to his contribution for the existence of peace and harmony in Mizoram. He expressed hope that the recognition of the sacrifice he made for peace would encourage other Christian leaders for similar conflict resolutions in the country, including the North Eastern States.
Saying that he was privileged to be a Life Member of EFI, he lauded the highly commendable contributions made by the EFI, among others, for peace and reconciliation, even in serious ethnic conflict situations. ‘‘I never call myself a good Christian. But I do take steps at my level best for the glory of God and for the extension of His kingdom,” he said.
“My little dedication for the peace and harmony in Mizoram has now seen its fruitful result due to the guidance of God. I wish very much that those still in turmoil in the country, especially in the NE region, acknowledge my little dedication and use it as a means of solving their problem,” he added.
He mentioned that during the ethnic conflict in June 1992 between Kuki and Naga and that of Dimasa and Hmar in April 2003, EFI leaders stepped out for peace and harmony risking their lives after the government’s failure. That peace prevailed between the communities till today is a good example of the glory of God and love to his people, he added.
He called upon Christians to live by the principles of the Church and the teachings of Christ and be examples to others wherever they are in the country. He also emphasized that churches in the region need to send as many missionaries to the West as the Christianity is fading at fast rate.
