Mob assaults pastor and believers in Coimbatore
Pastor Simon Stanley, a resident of Perur, was heading a congregation of Apostolic Christian Church in Perur near Coimbatore City. One of his believer named Bagavathi, who was staying in a nearby village named Goundanur invited Pastor to come to her house and pray for her 12 years old girl who had a fractured hand. Accordingly, the pastor visited her house evening about 7.00 pm on Sunday, August 03, 2014 with few believers and prayed for the girl.
After commencing prayer, around 10 members of a gang came and shouted at them and 6 of them forcefully entered into the house and locked the door from inside. Then, they accused Pastor Stanley of offering money to the families in the locality for religious conversion. After a heated argument, the gang began assaulting the Pastor and dragged outside the house. They also beat other members of the congregation in the house including ladies and children using ever silver vessels and with other house hold articles which were available in the house.
Many of the believers were severely injured and taken to the local hospital. Pastor Simon Stanley was taken to the Government Hospital of Coimbatore for further treatment. He was admitted there for 3 days, since he had many injuries, CT scan was done and he is still under treatment. In this regard, an FIR was filed in Perur Police station.
Based on his complaint, the Perur police registered a case and identified five of the attackers. Bharathi and Thangavel, who was the alleged mastermind of the attack were arrested and remanded them to judicial custody. A search for four others was launched.
