The Annual festival of Our Lady of Good Health starts at VelankanniThe 11-day annual festival of Our Lady of Good Health popularly called “Annai Velankanni Matha Tiruvizha” commenced on Saturday, August 29, 2015 with a Holy procession and hoisting of a flag at the Velankanni Basilica. Velankanni is a Town panchayat situated in Nagapattinam District in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu.
Most Rev. M. Devadass Ambrose, Bishop of Thanjavur, hoisted the holy flag at the Shrine Basilica in Velankanni. Rev. Fr. A.M.A. Prabakar, Rector of Shrine Basilica, Velankanni, Fr. Yagappa Rajarathinam, procurator and Fr. S.Arockiasundaram, Assistant Parish Priest were participated in the ceremony.
A large number of pilgrims and devotees over Tamilnadu and neighbouring State participated in the first day prayers and blessing and Holy mass. Holy mass, blessing of the sick with the statue of Our Lady of Health was conducted at the main shrine. High mass in Tamil, Marathi, English, Konkani, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi are conducted in the Basilica from morning till evening all through the festival.
A largest chariot procession is going to be held on the night of September 07. The next day, on the morning of the 8th, on behalf of Matha’s birth anniversary, Thanjavur Bishop Devadas Ambrose will lead a special Mass. The festival will conclude on September 08.
